I was waiting for an appointment and picked up the July 14th issue of “The National Review” and it opened to an article describing Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. He answered all the questions put to him in a way, that was applauded by all the members as being clear and straight forward. In spite of the fact that even the leading liberals in Alabama, confirm his fairness and integrity. It was reported that Sen. Charles Schumer said that he has doubts that someone with the deeply held views of Pryor, who is a Catholic, could be counted on to follow the law.

I was astounded to hear that kind of sentiment at any level of government and went to the internet to see if it was reported elsewhere. In a number of mostly “conservative” web sites and news papers there was a trend reported as early as June 20 when the “Family Research Council” reported that the 250 written questions put to Mr. Pryor were a thinly disguised assault on his Catholic faith. I later read the specific question Sen. Schumer asked, Given his deeply held beliefs , could he set aside his personal conviction and apply the law fairly and equally. This would suggest that people of faith, especially Catholics, cannot follow the law and should be disqualified from being a Judge.
Could this be true! Is there a disposition (should I dare say conspiracy) in place to keep Catholics from positions of influence in the government.
Even in the North East, most Country clubs that were formerly restricted now allow Catholics.
I would suggest that we find out.
