Reports of the “9/12 Movement” are few and far between despite the large crowds that they attract. Interesting though, in the Sunday LA Times spent most of the print real estate likening them to Communists.
The New York Times mentioned the Washington rally on page A37 of the Sunday paper, “Thousands Attend Broad Protest of Government,” A smaller Obama rally got better placement, and so had a previous ACORN-led left-wing protest numbering…40 people. This was in spite of the Washington D.C. Fire Dept. estimating that 60,000 to 70,000 people had attended the 9/12 protest, and many others estimated higher. Other sources claimed that clips supplied by the attendees showed crowd in the hundreds of thousands, larger than the Obama inauguration that overflowed the Mall onto the surrounding streets.
These folks seem to be just angry that the government, both Republican and Democrat ideologies, is working for themselves not for the folks they represent very similar to the thoughts I have presented in these articles.
The principles the promote are that: 1. America is good. 2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life. 3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday. 4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government. 5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it. 6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results. 7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable. 8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion. 9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me. The philosophy as a whole is hard to find fault with and the world would be better if most of us tried to live up to most of it.The general complaint is that the government is tacking control of everything in opposition to what Americans generally have held dear.Locally, assertions of corruption in the business of the city, the navigation district, the school district ( just up the valley several board members were recently arrested) are a matter of public discussion as though it is the way things are supposed to be. Could it be that some politicos once in office for awhile find they must go along or they don’t go?We voted in the last election to end the war and to change how the government worked. The war is still with us and the same guy is still in charge as Secretary of Defense with no end in sight. It seems however that the Obama administration thinks the the attack on the U.S. was the death of 2,993 civilians as well as some police – fire officers, which was more than the surprise attack that resulted in 2,402 killed many of whom were in the military. In the case of Pearl Harbor we declared a war and prosecuted it like a war.
In the case of 9/11 Congress voted not to object to a Republican President taking military action in the case. Nothing was specifically described as specifications and criteria for completion of hostilities.
This was not unlike the Vietnam Conflict which was referred to as a police action and prosecuted by politicians as though the enemy were criminals instead of a cohesive group with a belief system is thought of by the enemy that cannot coexist with our system.
Enemies are not just bad guys they want to end our system of living and install theirs. They cannot be overcome with a group of law enforcement officers and lawyers though it seems that our current administration would like to send a bunch of lawyers and put them all through a trial. Better yet our president should meet with Bin-laden and read him the law.
It remains that war is horrible and should only be entered into when the president requests a declaration and all members of Congress vote publically stating whether the situation is in deed absolutely necessary to defend our nation against aggression.
As it seems from the public displays we are rapidly becoming ruled by those who want to eliminate the rights of freedom our forefathers died for, just to acquire more power.
This is why I joined the Libertarian Party and will work to evict the power mongers at the local, state and federal levels and empower the folks with representatives who will represent us not seek power and enrichment.
We Libertarians are having a meeting to meet with our State Chairman and State Director to discuss the plans and goals for the coming year, and meeting with potential candidates. If you are interested please join us on September 20 at 2PM in Denny’s Restaurant at 6131 Paredes Line Rd in Brownsville.
Let us return to a time as described by Jefferson and described by Tom Paine in his writings called Common Sense…..
