About Me!

Posted on 7 of May, 2008 by

I grew up on the U.S. – Canadian Border just south of Montreal, Quebec and entered the U.S. Navy at 17 as I was tired of school. I worked in a Recon unit and commuted between the Philippines and Vietnam for most of the six plus years in the military. The rest of the time was spent as a photojournalist in Guam, the Caroline Islands, The Marshalls, Chi Chi Jima and Saipan. I won the Gridiron Award for the best news photo in 1968.
I left the military in 1969 and began my career with U.S. Customs at JFK Airport in 1970 with assignments in the New Jersey Seaports, Overseas Assignments in the Philippines and Thailand, and U.S. assignments the National Training Center in Georgia, and Service Headquarters in Washington as well as the Houston Regional Office, the Laredo District Office and the Port of Brownsville where I retired in 1994 with 30 plus years of government service.
I received my Undergraduate Degree in Management Science and Accounting from Kean University in New Jersey and did my MBA graduate work at Rutgers and UT PanAm.
Much of my best work was involved with conducting organizational staff audits and developing more efficient solutions. My most satisfying accomplishment was the analysis and restructuring of the Operational Control Function in the New York Region which included Bonded Warehouse Management, Foreign Trade Zone Administration, Vessel Terminal Facility supervision, Vessel Entrance and Clearance and Vessel Repair Entry Services as well as bonded trucking supervision. Organized crime infiltration was identified and removed during the process.
Since my retirement in 1994, I began Isabel Cortes Ferry Service between Port Isabel and Puerto Cortes Honduras and Padrino Maritime a Roll On Roll Off Cargo Vessel operation serving the Western Gulf and Central America. Served as a adjunct instructor at UTB-Texas Southmost College in a two semester International Trade program that guided the preparation of a business plan and then developing the aspects of the business. I used the the business plan I developed for my Ferry Company as it was sucessful in securing backers and resulted in a viable company.
Most recently I have operated a small consulting service involved in the management of Passenger Vessels and Car Passenger Vessels and Maritime Logistics Management.
I have also written a popular column of commentary related to the application of Common Sense to today’s problem and politics called “Today’s Common Sense” which persists as my major passion.
I also serve the community as an officer in the Cameron County Libertarian Party and previously served on the Texas State Libertarian Party Executive Committee.
